Why Healthy Living MATTERS for Moms
The biggest request I get from my community is more resources for kids. Food for kids, kids nutrition-- and I get it, we care about our kids (I do, too) and we want them healthy and thriving, and we need the resources for that. And I hear you-- I have some fun projects up my sleeve that are in the works to do just that. But I want you to hear me out on something. Living a healthy life MATTERS for moms.
In fact, I think it matters MORE that you take care of YOURSELF than your kids, and I know this can stir up some controversy, but here’s why:
As many of you know, I am all about tuning into your intuition and finding what works for YOU when it comes to nutrition; ditching the rules and restrictions and finding your beautiful balance- the intersection of nourishment, intuition and pleasure in eating and living your best, healthiest mama life.
But in this is nourishment, which I think sometimes gets overlooked in the Intuitive Eating world. Though the facets of ditching diets, making peace with food, honoring hunger and fullness and finding satisfaction with food provide the framework for food freedom, health is not excluded from intuitive eating-- and your health matters when you’re a mom.
Your health matters no matter who you are, but when you have a family to run, tiny humans to keep alive (and all of the other things you are passionate about/called to do, whether that’s holding a career outside the home, starting your own business, running a bible study or coaching your kid’s soccer team- they’re all important)-- your health sets the tone for the rest of your family.
Your energy, your vitality, your influence carries over to everyone you are close to.
Health doesn’t just mean nutrition, either- health encompasses our mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Health is, inherently, holistic, and if any of these areas are suffering, this suffering will also carry over to your family.
Let me ask you this:
When is the last time you put your kids’ health or nourishment (mental, physical or spiritual) above your own?
Have you ever skipped a meal because your hunger doesn’t matter as much as whatever else is going on?
When is the last time you took time JUST for you and your self care?
How often do you take uninterrupted time to get quiet?
When is the last time you ate intentionally and decided what to eat based on how it would make you feel (not just time/availabilty)? As mothers, we are called to put others before ourselves- namely, our kids and our family. As a Christian, I believe I am called to care for others. But this shouldn’t come at the expense of honoring our own health and nourishment, because without that health, nourishment and vitality- we can not show up as the best version of ourselves FOR the people that are important to us.
...without that health, nourishment and vitality- we can not show up as the best version of ourselves FOR the people that are important to us.
This isn’t meant to be a scolding, but a gentle wake-up call.
Why are we spending so much time worrying about our kids’ health, when we aren’t even caring for our own?
How can we expect our kids to carry on the healthy practices we hope for them, if we, ourselves, are not setting the example?
Mothers are the heartbeat of the home. The way you show up for yourself AND the people around you is the way your kids will learn to show up for themselves and the people around them.
If you want a healthier, happier family, I offer it to you to look in the mirror. Is the woman staring back one of vibrancy, energy and vitality? A nourished, thriving home starts with you. It starts, with me.
Your kids deserve the very BEST version of you.
They deserve a mother who is healthy, energetic, vibrant and shows up for their life.
They deserve a mother who isn’t stressing about food, but knows how to nourish herself well, without obsession. They deserve a mother who can be active with them, who can enjoy treats with them, who LIVES a life she wants her kids to emulate.
Is that woman you?
I am sharing all of this not because I am standing on some high horse preaching the merits of healthy living. I am sharing all of this because I have BEEN that mom.
I have been the mom who obsessed over my health to the point I was screaming at my two year old kid because I was SO hungry but wouldn’t let myself eat because of the plan I was on.
I have also been the mom who neglected my health to the point of complete exhaustion, barely able to take care of the child I was supposed to care for.
I have been the woman who used food as a means to cope during an especially emotional time in my life, gaining a dozen pounds in a matter of months, sparking a cycle of dieting that lasted for nearly a decade before I finally broke free.
None of these women are women I am proud to have been. But the woman I am now, and the woman I am continually evolving into, is a woman who honors herself and her health and KNOWS she is setting an example of health and vibrancy for her kids.
So let me ask now,
What does the healthiest version of YOU look like?
What is it going to take to get you there?
If you are sitting on the other side of your computer screen, or iphone, or whatever device you’re reading this on-- and you have a vision in your head of the woman you desire to be, but you might not know how you’re going to get there (or maybe you do, but you don’t know where to start)-- that is WHY I am here.
I am here because I did the work FOR you. I worked through it myself. I did the dirty work. I failed at the diets. I got the education and the certifications so you don’t have to spend time doing the research yourself, trying to figure it all out. I found what works for me, and I’m ready to teach you how to find what works, for YOU. The tools are RIGHT at your fingertips.
All you have to do is say YES to the next level of YOUR health mama life.
You don’t have to go about it alone. I’m here for you, mama. I want to give you the tools to make REAL changes in your life, without drastic overhauls that leave you exhausted, right back where you started.
It’s ALL in The Supermama Society, waiting for you to take it and run with it, with me by your side.
Enrollment is only open through September 15.
I KNOW you can make $14.99 a month, or $39.99 for three months, work for their life. It’s about saying YES to a better future you.
Here’s to your new beginning this fall. I believe in you!
