I quit my own program. Here's why.

Last week, after days of planning and preparation, I announced to the Healthy Mama Life Facebook Community that I would not be running the Healthy Mama Kickstart , in January. Here's what I told them:

The end of the year truly is a time of reflection, isn't it? As I sat down yesterday to plan the busy week ahead, I reflected on all that God had me learn and share in the past year. And I quickly realized that some of my plans were not in alignment with what I desire to share and teach, in this little nutrition business of mine.

So, with heartfelt consideration I have decided not to run the 10-day Healthy Mama Kickstart, this year.

This business has evolved quite a bit over the years, from running little health and fitness challenges when Sage was just a newborn, as a way to help others when teaching cooking classes and taking clients full time was no longer an option, to becoming a trainer, furthering my education in prenatal nutrition, creating online programs, and birthing this wonderful community we call the Healthy Mama Life Community.

Somewhere along the line, my mission started to change as God revealed to me more of what I am meant to do and share in this world. That my purpose is far deeper than simply promoting challenges and that, as someone who has struggled with and worked with clients on the diet rollercoaster, that I needed to help break the cycle of quick fixes and share what really works- SIMPLE habits that create SUSTAINABLE change.

As much as I desired the Kickstart to be a jump start into a healthier lifestyle, I know all to well spending 10 days jumping headfirst into huge lifestyle changes isn't the way to do it.

Quick fixes are sexy. And that's why they sell. But they don't last- and I'm not trying to sell anything. What I want for you, mama, is to make REAL changes to your health and life.

I want to start 2018 off on the right foot. Each and every one of us. I want it to be a place to make real change, to get ourselves off to a truly healthy start. So this year, we're doing things differently.

After months of hard work creating and putting the free program together last year, I thought it was only natural to run it again, this year. But the more I thought about it and prayed about it, the more I realized running a program that suggests making huge lifestyle changes all at once truly isn't my style. It's not what I would recommend to my friends, my family or my paying clients. And it's exactly what kept me in the cycle of yo-yo dieting and disordered eating for so many years. So I quit.

This last year was a year of so many changes and difficult decisions. After competing in my first fitness competition in early 2016 I spent a year and a half recovering my body and returning to my roots, in my own nutrition and my business- real, whole foods, healthy lifestyle changes and fitness that feels good. None of which includes restricting foods, cutting out food groups, counting calories, exercising obsessively or beating yourself up over not being perfect. Because perfection is impossible, and what we should be striving for is a uniquely beautiful balance in every area of our lives- health included. So this year, I'm getting back to the basics. SIMPLE habits that create SUSTAINABLE change in our healthy mama lives. And on January 1st, instead of hitting the ground running with a cleanse or detox that is sure to leave us exhausted and defeated, in the Healthy Mama Life Community we're hitting the reset button on our bad habits and creating simple, HEALTHY habits to implement REAL change in your healthy mama life.
